While all you mortals out there were hooting and welcoming the new year in all its galore on the eve of 2021, I chose this opportunity to catch up on the latest (and sadly the last) adventures of our dear Sabrina [Cheerleader by day, Queen of hell by Night!]

Sabrina has been canceled by Netflix as of July 2020

So, here is a list of 5 ‘Awesome’ and 5 ‘Not-so-awesome’ things about Season 4 of CAOS. This can actually help you decide once and for all, as to how ‘Chilling’ the adventures of Sabrina Spellman actually were.

[Spoilers Ahead]

5 Awesome Things About Season 4: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

One: The Oh-So-Awesome Eldritch Terrors

The concept of Eight Eldritch Terrors has been beautifully integrated with the show’s storyline and characters. The eight eldritch's terrors are The Darkness, The Uninvited, The Weird One, The Perverse, The Cosmic, The Returned, The Endless, and The Void. It is fun to see these cosmic calamities unravel and reign chaos in Greendale. Sci-Fi fans will find these terrors not so new, owing to their overlap in shows such as Supernatural, Doctor Who, Stranger Things, American Gods, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, etc.

Two: Straight From Hell Labour

The witches at the Academy came together to share and suffer in the labor pain of Lilith, as she delivered Lucifer’s baby. The cherry on the cake is the moment when the coven kicked their enemy off by inflicting the very same labor pain. In this small yet powerful scene, the show gained a huge nod from women all over the world. But, only if pain transference was this easy.

Lilith was Lilith in the end, The goody-two-shoes was only a phase!

Three: Real World Realisation

Sabrina is portrayed as a brave and beautiful teen-witch-queen all throughout the 4 part series, however, this season had a significant shift. She was lonely, sad, and peer-pressured like every other teenager out there. She pushed herself into going on lousy dates, had a very public nervous breakdown at her aunt’s wedding, and even almost went on to magic-made-herself an ideal boyfriend [Sweet as Harvey, Wild as Nick].

She

Four: My Father In Hell

The father arc was a much-hyped topic in the earlier seasons of CAOS. Though crisp, the acceptance of Sabrina of not being actually Edward’s daughter was heartily ingenious. She even settled father terms with Lucifer by being a Morningstar and called him a false father when she was a Spellman. Bye-bye Edward, finally!

In the end, Edward Spellman’s contribution was rather negligible

Five: All was not well in the end

Although I have nothing against it, but I hate how most big screen endings incline towards a very ‘Happily Ever After’ tone. But that’s not what happened in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. It is sad yet honest. Sabrina was bound to fall someday and fell she did. She lost her parents when she was a babe, lost her boyfriend when she embraced her full witch self, lost her freedom to the dark lord when she signed in the Book-Of-Beasts, again lost her boyfriend while saving the world, lost her throne to her other self, lost her other self to Eltrich Terrors, lost her body to The Void, and finally loses her life in order to save the world. The only reprieve is when her love — Nick finds her in the afterlife or did he?

5 Not-So-Cool Things about Season 4: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Five: The Celestial Vain

The show often discussed Angels & Heaven (The third realm) but never actually delved deep into reaching the celestial realm. The characters traveled only between Earth and Hell. This season’s inclusion of an important angel, like Metatron looked promising at the beginning but she ends up being dead in a 3-second cameo. Wish the show-runners took more interest in the Celestial Arc, as much they did to the celestial blood.

Metatron — The Angel who did actually nothing!

Four: Marry Me! Oh No!

Sabrina, yes both of them got married — at 17!! Caliban and Sabrina got MARRIED! Remember how we cried and questioned when Sabrina had to break up with Harvey or Nick? And Now she goes ahead and marries off a guy who tried to imprison her for eternity after staging a coup against her. Also, the Spellman version marries an Eldritch terror.

Everyone is getting married after lockdown-end, even the Queen of Hell!

Three: Ambrose To The Rescue

Most characters were nothing more than props in the entire season. Father Blackwood, Miss Wardwell, Lucifer, Caliban, Aunties Zelda & Hilda, Harvey, Robin, Theo, Ros, etc. all had hastily written and poorly executed storylines. They had a negligible impact on the show’s progress overall. The only other character who actually solves anything apart from Sabrina is Ambrose. The season was completely and pervasively centered on the two Sabrinas.

Double-Trouble was all it was.

Two: Is It A Musical?

Suddenly everyone at Baxter High and Witch Academy is gunning to be Pink-Floyd. There is a Rockband stage war, which takes place near the Gates of Hell between The Fright Club (Harvey, Ros, Robin, and Theo) and Satanic Panic (a Murderer/Resurrected Band of the 80s). The prize is Harvey Kinkle’s dad, yes it is. And, If all this nonsense is still not enough, the once feared and worshipped MIGHTY DARK LORD LUCIFER plays the host of the event and manager to the resurrected rock band of the 80s.

One: Recycling, Recycling, Yet Again Recycling Arc

Been there, Done that! The hasty storyline and half-baked characters can be digested at times, but the show’s use of repetitive arcs with the main characters is disturbing. Harvey is on the verge to dump yet another girl because he can not handle her being a witch. Nick is again all suns and moons for Sabrina after being done with Prudence.

And yes even Salem was doing something.

All hail Queen Morningstar

In the end, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has always been a ‘Why’ & ‘Wow’ kind of show. I was never in the thrall of it, like Doctor Who or Game of Thrones, but I never left a season incomplete as well. Sadly, as the show was canceled in July this year, this season is the very last time any one of us will be watching Sabrina Spellman's save the day!

Our girl Sabrina was badass and beautiful till the very end. See you soon with more Chilling Discussions on Adventures of Sabrina Spellman.
